Community Involvement

Volunteerism and community service are not just buzzwords at Mindset Wealth — they’re key values that define our organization. Just as individuals save money as an investment in their personal futures, we believe in giving back to our community as an investment in all the people within it.

From 2013 – 2017, Mindset Wealth was the lead sponsor and organizer of the annual St. Joseph’s Hospital Charity Golf Classic, now called the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic. Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $270,000 for various local healthcare initiatives, equipment and projects. Mindset is still a high-level sponsor for this tournament every year, and our office manager Laura Nickel is actively involved in organizing the event. It’s a great cause that benefits everyone in our community.

In the fall of 2017, as Habitat for Humanity was gearing up to begin building 21 new homes in Courtenay and Campbell River, Mindset pledged to match individual donations made to the organization until December 31 of that year, to a total of $5,000. When donations surpassed $10,000, we doubled our contribution, too.

In the fall of 2018, Mindset hosted a client dinner at Locals Restaurant in support of Kus-Kus-Sum, Project Watershed’s initiative to restore the Field Sawmill site on the Courtenay River by the 17^th Street bridge. The fun, low-key, casual event raised well over $10,000 toward this “Unpave Paradise” project.

We also help to support people who bring inspiration to our community, such as Ocean Wise chef Ned Bell, former Olympic beach volleyball player Martin Reader, and Order of Canada winner Robb Nash, whose powerful anti-suicide music performances have inspired Comox Valley high schools twice in the past several years thanks in part to our support.

For several years, Rudy Chung, manager of our Vancouver office, has been the Vancouver president of the National Association of Asian American Professionals, a non-profit association working to cultivate leadership in the Asian community. Through this role, Rudy volunteers his leadership to a variety of cultural and community events and organizations throughout Metro Vancouver.

Russ Wigle is a member of the Rotary Club of Comox, which raises funds for a wide variety of local and international causes. Russ helped coordinate the sale of salmon to raise funds for bringing fresh water to remote villages in Honduras, and he regularly helps out with various other community events through Rotary.

Robert Mulrooney is on the Board of Directors for the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation and was co-chair of the three-year “I Belong” capital campaign for L’Arche Comox Valley, which raised $1.7 million to create a facility that includes a community centre with a kitchen and activity rooms and studios for creative arts programs, as well as residences and outreach services for people with developmental disabilities, in the Comox Valley. The I Belong Centre opened in June 2017.

Robert has also been a director-at-large for the Comox Valley Baseball Association and still donates his time to coach minor baseball, football and hockey.
